La Mamma Nostra Restaurant Description:

The People

Michael, the owner of La Mamma Nostra, has such a love of food, that you just know that what you are about to eat is going to be good. Michael was born in Sicily but his family soon moved to Rome, from Rome Michael went to work in France, then Spain eventually settling in Calpe.

The Venue

The restaurant has a Bistro atmosphere and is an ideal spot to stop and eat after an evening's stroll along the promenade, it can be found in Avenida Gibraltar, in the passageway of Edificio Voramar, there is a very pleasant shaded outside terrace

The Food

The experience of Michael's travels has influenced his cooking as at La Mamma Nostra you can not only eat delicious home-made pastas and pizzas, but dishes from all over Europe. Michael says he works with the two most important ingredients, very fresh foods, such as steaks from the North of Spain, and flavourings made from fresh herbs and spices.
All the dishes are freshly made on the premises.
Amongst the cold starters on offer is La Mamma Salad with chicken liver and yogurt, and La Mamma Roulade with spinach and chicken.
Warm starters include Crepes with Caemembert Cheese, and Aubergine Tart with Goat's Cheese au gratin.
Apart from the wide range of Italian dishes (he says his lasagne is just the best), and the Spanish dishes that are offered, his repertoire includes Swiss fondue, Tournedos Rossini, beef fillet fried with Fois Gras and a touch of apple, and Duck Magret with a special double sauce cooked from fruits of the forest, and flambéed at your table in brandy.
Succulent steaks are offered with a variety of sauces, the most interesting being Sirloin Celentao, an Italian 2 cheese sauce made from marscapone, gorgonzola and white Martini.
Michael says he often takes ideas from other chefs, then adds extra special touches full of flavour, such as fois gras surrounded with beef carpaccio.
He serves a very special dish called Fillet Steak Café de Paris. In 1930 in Paris the dish was created by a Madame Boubier, with 24 different spices. The rich flavoured sauce is given its name by the café au lait colour it turns into.
Fish lovers will not be disappointed, there are five fish dishes to choose from, including “Gilthead Bream”, made with a sauce that joins sea with land, and Salmon Cardinals served with a traditional La Mamma sauce.
The puddings include Tiramisu and Crepes Suzette.
The menu del dia changes regularly, and there is a set children’s menu that includes pizzas and spaghetti bolognaise. La Mamma Nostra accepts  Kids for Free cards.

Michael also owns the Tapeo tapas bar in Alfaz del Pi which is run by his wife.
