The Night of San Juan is celebrated in Calpe as the shortest night of the year and summer solstice. Many associated cultural rituals make this fiesta one of the highlights of the Calpe fiesta experience.
Join friends and family on the beach in Calpe on the Night of the Bonfires of San Juan in Calpe to enjoy this wonderful evening of partying, with fireworks and burning of the bonfires at midnight.
The custom of lighting a fire comes from Pagan origin, with young people often having jumped over the fire to "give more strength to the sun". The other tradition is to jump seven waves and make a wish at midnight.

This is the night of the summer solstice rituals.
Playa del Arenal:
21:30 Dinner "sobaquillo" on the beach.
22:00 Orchestra and Foam pParty.
23:30 Fireworks.
00:00 "Cremà" of the stake - burning of the bonfires.
Monday 24th June
The following night, the 24th of June, is the eve of San Juan Bautista, the patron saint of La Cometa. Bonfires are built up out of old wooden furniture and are lit during the night in celebration of the forthcoming summer.
