Calpe has given the Valencian Government a plot of land on which to build the new Health Centre.
The Valencian Government has been given a plot of land next to the Marshlands at the Salinas on which to build a new Health Centre. The Health Centre will be run by the same German company, Marina Salud, that is in charge of Denia Hospital and the present Health Centre in the Town.
At the end of last year the Partido Popular Diputado, Cèsar Sanchez, showed the plot of land to the Valencian Government’s Councillor for Health. The land at present is used as a free parking lot across the road from a supermarket on Avenida Jaime I. Though the agreement with the Generalitat required 5,000 square meters of land, the plot is actually less than that.
The Mayor said that the fact that the Health Centre will be three stories high which will compensate for the plot being smaller. The opposition Councillors were not in favour of the cessation of this particular plot of land for the building of the Health Centre. The Socialist said that the agreement was not for a fully equipped Health Centre. The Partido Popular disagreed and said that there will be three permanent doctors, a paediatrician, three nurses and other carers. The opposition Councillors said that building a Health Centre next to marshland was not a very good idea as the area is prone to flooding. They also said that parking in the summer would be impossible. Antonia Avargues commented that it was likely to be a pre election promise that would come to nothing.
