Calpe Town Hall presented on Wednesday a new wireless communication network using WiMax technology that will connect almost all municipal public buildings. The network, funded entirely through state funds (FEELS) with an investment of 130,000 euros, will also enable residents to enjoy free internet connection in the street of a basic rate of 128Kb.
The Councillor of Communications, Antonio Romero, said at a news conference that so far the city had determined the connection between municipal agencies outside the Town Hall, such as the Casa de Cultura, the Punt Jove, Social Welfare, Igualtat, the Office of Padrón, Housing, Civic Center and the Local Police Headquarters through a fiber optic ring.
With WiMAX technology that now extends the connection to the building of the radio-television Calp, the police checkpoint located on the Avenida de Europa, the pavilion, the municipal pool, the protector of animals, general stores, the enclosure vehicles, tourist offices and the Center for Maite Boronat.
Iber WiFi Exchange Gowex Group is the company that has developed this project for Calpe. WiMax network infrastructure is a faster and cheaper alternative that provides a transmission rate greater than Wi-Fi, and a similar flow up and down. Allows connections at speeds similar to ADSL.
With the investment made there will soon be Internet access to plazas, parks, beaches and areas of the municipality in which Telefónica provides services and connections using 3G mobile devices. There will initially be about 57 antennas installed, or base stations on lamp posts and rooftops.
