The CalpeOnline24 Review

Los Zapatos Restaurant is situated in Calle La Santa Maria, in the centre of Calpe town, and offers French cuisine with a modern twist in very plush surroundings.

The Venue
Los Zapatos Restaurant is a small, intimate restaurant, with a relaxing, romantic ambience. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, from the crisp tablecloths, to the modern art exhibits, to the wonderful fresh flowers that adorn each table. It was very easy to find, being located just off the Avenida Gabriel Miro, and there was 'blue zone' parking directly outside the restaurant.

The People
Los Zapatos has been run by Egon Abb and his wife, for the past 23 years. Before opening the restaurant, Egon had gained experience in 8 different countries, in Europe, North America and the Middle East. Egon is the principal chef at the restaurant, but he still takes the time to talk to all his guests and check that they are enjoying their experience in his restaurant. 

The Menu
The restaurant offers a choice of A La Carte, or Menu Attractivo which is priced competitively at 16€ for 3 courses, and changes on a regular basis. The A La Carte menu includes a wide choice of both hot & cold starters, with wonderful tempations such as Alsatian Onion Tart with Bacon, and Scallops prepared with aged dry Sherry & gratinated with parmesan cheese. The main course section is split into Fish & Meats, including Skewer of Seabass & Prawns with Vegetable Risotto, and Roast Crown of Lamb.
We opted for the set menu, which gave us a choice of 3 starters, 3 main courses & 3 desserts.

The Food
For starters I chose the Home Made Pate, served with fresh salad. This was an excellent choice, but even better was the stunning chicken livers served with a French omelette. This sounds like an unusual combination, but the chicken livers just melted in the mouth. 
For main course, I chose the Norwegian Salmon Fillet, perfectly cooked and served with a garlic tomato and risotto. My partner chose the Loin of Wild Boar, which is caught locally in the area. This was excellent and was served in tender slices with a creamy black peppercorn sauce and fresh vegetables.

For dessert we had Meringue with Vanilla Ice Cream and Hot Chocolate Sauce, and Iced Parfait with Strawberry Confit. Both desserts were the perfect way to end the meal, being light dishes, full of delicious flavour.


The Last Word
Los Zapatos restaurant is a lovely place for a high quality meal at very reasonable prices. It is the ideal venue to enjoy a special evening with friends, or a romantic dinner for two.
