The Water Board yesterday approved various infrastructure initiatives to avoid flooding in various parts of Calpe.

Mayor Cesar Sanchez, supported by 2 other councillors, Antonia Avargues and Ana Chamber, urged the Water Board to take immediate steps to solve the problems that often cause flooding in the municipality.

Priority has been given to the installation of an emergency generator for pumping rainwater from Avenida Juan Carlos I, which is usually waterlogged by rain. Until now, the area had no electricity and the bilge pump was not working.

The initiatives include ensuring adequate drainage of water in the following areas:

* Avenida El Puerto de Santa Maria, between Calles Benissa and Murillo.
* The entrance to Avenida La Merced,
*  El Circuito de la Salud,
* Urbanisations La Merced, La Caleta & Los Pinos.

During the meeting, the Mayor expressed concern about prior flooding in Avenida Juan Carlos I, and he urged the company to take immediate action to ensure everything possible is done to ensure there is no repeat during periods of high rainfall.
