An Extraordinary Town Council meeting held to approve increases in taxes and 2011 Budget.

An Extraordinary Town Council was called by theBLOC nationalist Mayor, Ximo Tur, to approve the increase of 22 local taxes. At the beginning of the Pleno the motion to increase the price of the local refuse collection was withdrawn. Fifteen of the 22 taxes, such as licenses to open businesses and taxi licenses, were only being increased in line with inflation. All the Councillors were in agreement with the increase. Other tax rises approved of where the cost of hiring the auditorium, the sale of municipal publications, civil weddings, tutoring in the Music School, and the installation of ATM’s by the banks. The opposition were not in agreement with the increase in taxes on bar’s and restaurant’s tables and chairs on the streets, and the increase in use of the Sports facilities. The ruling councillors were in favour of an increase and the motions were passed. Pedro Jaime Fernandez, who had resigned that day from the Partido Popular, refused to vote in favour of the Mayor’s Budget for 2011 and his ten year financial reform project. The opposition Councillors were also against the Budget and reform project, the Mayor therefore had to use his casting vote to get the motions approved.
