Natural Park of Ifach Rock celebrates its 25th anniversary

On Thursday 19 January, it has been twenty-five years since the declaration of Natural Park Penyal d'Ifac. Decree 1/1987 of the Consell of the Generalitat Valenciana granted Ifac the qualification 'protected natural area' for its environmental and landscape values and its rich historical heritage.

This statement, which protects and ensures preservation of the Penyal stresses that it is one of the most characteristic landscapes of the coast of the Community Valenciana. During 2012, the natural park will continue to promote activities related to environment and culture. This first quarter, elementary schools in Calpe and Benissa are participating in storytelling about native flora, and are scheduled for planting of indigenous species.

In addition, interpretive tours are conducted for businesses and individual persons. Starting this spring, the agenda will continue with activities until the end of the year, with children's workshops on Archaeology and Environmental Education, guided night tours for adults in the summer months, talks on flora and volunteer work. In total, the participation of more than 700 people is expected for the 2012 programme. The Ifac rock is the smallest Natural Park of Valencia, but also one of the best known, with an average of 130,000 visitors annually.
